Best Way To Remove Yolk From Egg

If you’re making an attempt to get healthy, eating egg whites is a great way! But there’s a problem. Yolks aren’t exactly the easiest thing to remove from the egg. What I’m going to outline below is the best way to remove yolk from egg so you can start eating better today!

Early Prep

So, if you’re anything like me, the initial attempt at separating the yolk will probably be with a spoon. I used this for a long time before I found the best method. Some people just splurge for a yolk separator, which isn’t a horrible idea, but not ideal since you have to use something that’s normally not handy and an something you have to purchase and wait for delivery.

Revealing The Method

The big reveal as to what’s the best way to remove the yolk is.. *drumroll* ..a plastic bottle. Yes, a simple plastic bottle. I personally use an empty water bottle. You can also use an empty coke bottle, or any other plastic bottle that you can squeeze to create suction, which is key to pull the yolk from the egg.

Ok, so here’s what you do:

1. Crack an egg into a bowl as you normally would any other time.

2. Squeeze your bottle ever so slightly, and place the top opening over the egg yolk to form an air tight seal.

3. Release the bottle, and the yolk will be sucked up. It helps to tilt the bottle as you do this in a scooping fashion so the yolk doesn’t fall out after it passes the suction of the opening.

4. If you have more than 1 egg, it’s best practice to empty the bottle before removing a 2nd or more yolks since it will complicate the process with a yolk already in the bottle.

Here is a short video showing the process:

Conclusion

There you have it, how to remove yolk from an egg in a nutshell. Whether you opt to use a spoon, your hand, the shell, or any other method, my personal favorite is using the bottle.
